Restoran Venecia

This is what I would call a " hidden gem" waiting to be discovered. It took about 20 minutes for me to locate the place on top of 40 mins travelling time from Subang Jaya to Selayang on my first visit to Restoran Venecia... and that was more than 2 years ago. Restoran Venecia used to be called Restoran Venezuela. I don't know since when they have changed their name as I didn't notice that when I was here on my last visit few months ago.
They are based at 1st floor in this clubhouse ( or community hall?) of this condominium, Casa Venecia in Selayang. There is no signboard placed outside nor inside the condominium. It is indeed a hassle for the first timer to locate the place. The security is tight. You need to leave your driving license at the guard house before they allow you to enter the area.
Once inside the area, you would see a swimming pool and a small lake ( not sure if it was man made). The view was breathtaking, akin to the view in Cameron Highlands.
Restoran Venecia is just a small restaurant that has 8 or 9 tables only and a private room.
The Preserved Green Crunchy Mango... an excellent appetising dish before the meal. 2 small plates of this mango were served soon after we were being seated. It was so good that we actually requested for another one. RM 2.00 per serving.

Dishes that we order...
Everyone of us was being served one bowl each of this lala soup. The lala was fresh and clean. It really brought out the sweetness taste of the soup. But personally I don't really like the lala to be served as a main soup dish. In my opinion it should only be used to complement with other ingredients for soup based dishes but not lala alone for soup. I still prefer lala to be cooked in a "fried dish" version. - RM 20.00
The huge fried "Ma Yau" fish with Nyona sauce... This pic. can't really tell you the actual size of the fish but let me tell you it was at least 15" long. The sauce was very tasty... and on top of that, "petai" was certainly a big plus. - RM 50.00
Claypot tofu... plenty of ingredients used in this dish. -mushroom, button mushroom, cauliflower, carrot, baby corns, green pea, sotong, prawn and fresh scallop. Unfortunately the soft and smooth tofu was 'hiding' underneath all those ingredients which you can't see in the pic. -RM25.00
The Marmite Fried Sotong... It was crispy on the outside and still moist on the inside. Wonderful dish! -RM28.00
Half way through the meal, this claypot chicken which we didn't order was wrongly sent to us and I "accidentally" picked a piece of chicken wing for food tasting purpose before it was sent back to the rightful owner. It tasted OK but not great.

The star tonight... CRABS!

The boss actually led us to his kitchen to show us the huge crabs when we did the ordering. They were still alive and kicking. So we ordered 3 huge crabs weighed about 800 gms each and requested it to be cooked in 2 different recipes. One was fried with salted egg and the other was in yogurt sauce. RM60/kg and altogether it cost RM145.00.
The Salted Egg Crab... the saltiness of the egg and the sweetness of the crabs that complement each other very well... one word for that - Delicious!
Look at this crab claw... FYI, the one who held the claw was a grown up lady, not a small kid, she actually weighed 70kg or more. So with this info you can have a better idea on the size of her palm and the size of the claw. right?
The Yogurt Sauce Crab... the sauce was thick, rich and in yellowish color. I'm not sure if they used curry paste but there were some curry leafs in the dish. However the taste of curry was not too overpowering for the whole combination. It was just perfect! It was so tasty that makes you even wanna slurp up the gravy.

Conclusion...
A very satisfying meal! So far never once that Restoran Venecia disappoints me on any of my visits there. The only drawback is their location, the distance that takes about 45 minutes.
BTW, I would like to convey my sincere apologies to my family members as I had to hold them back whilst I tried to get a good shot. I could see them literally drooling as I did so.
The total bill came to RM293.00 (USD84.00) inclusive of drinks and rice for 10 adults.
Here, I should also thank my sister-in-law who has just came back from US that happily picked up the bill. Most importantly it was a satisfying meal!
This time around, I will just provide you their address below and not the location map which I normally did. I believe it will be more fun to do a bit of food hunting your own.

Lok Lok Fun

The other day, my foodie buddy and I were having fun at Lok Lok Fun...
They are having promotion currently - All you can eat at RM9.90 from 12p.m to 6p.m. We decided to take up the challenge...
Lok Lok Fun is a small kiosk based in Sunway Pyramid (I can't remember which floor already but it is at the new wing). They have 6 cooking pots fixed at the side of the kiosk. It is not meant for sharing and therefore it can only accommodate 6 persons at any one time.
They have wide selection of all kind of balls, mushrooms and veggies, but lack of meat items and fresh seafood. The condition of all-you-can-eat option is, you can take the items to fill up the provided plate one time only. Make sure you finish the items you take or else they will fine you for the left over.
This is what I took...
And this is what my foodie buddy took...
Individual cooking pot...
Different color, different price... the price ranged from RM1.00 - RM3.00 per stick.
Those were the sticks that left behind by my foodie friend. If he had to pay based on the quantity and color of the sticks, he had to pay RM41.00 and myself would have to pay RM31.00. Fortunately we opted for the challenge and just need to pay RM9.90 nett each person.
It would be wonderful if seafood and meat items are included in the selection. Their dip sauce is a bit letdown as they do not provide the satay sauce which supposed to be available at every lok-lok stalls.

Lou Yau Kee's Kai Si Hor Fun 鸡丝河粉

This Lou Yau Kee 老友记 serves quite a nice 鸡丝河粉 (Shredded Chicken Noodle) at Mei Sin Coffee Shop in Imbi.
" Yo, Buddy! I'd like to have a kon lou (dry) kai si hor fun". ( dry shredded chicken noodle)
Here comes my dry noodle topped with shredded chicken, green onion and lots of ginger paste. It's a simple dish but it is indeed satisfying to eat. The rice noodle is smooth and the soy sauce is just nice- not salty and not too sweet either. -RM4.50
If the kai Si Hor Fun is no way near of filling up your stomach, you can order a plate of "Char Kuey Teow" from this stall. They serve quite a decent fried kuey teow as well. But today my companion ordered a plate of "Chau Tong Fun"(fried glass noodle) from them. It was equally good. - RM 4.50
Both stalls that I mentioned only open during day time even though the coffee shop may open for business at night. It's packed with office workers during lunch time. Restaurant Mei Sin is located in Medan Imbi, Off Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur. Location map.

Lau Heong Seafood Restaurant

My friend recommended this place long time ago- IIRC it was last year. I kept on dragging until last weekend as I was too lazy to go all the way down to Sentul from Subang just to check out the place. According to him it was a "hidden gem" waiting to be discovered in a secluded housing area of Bandar Baru Sentul. It is indeed hidden but not so true that it needs to be discovered-they are already well known to many. Even though I missed a couple of turns but with the impeccable direction guiding from my foodie friend, I managed to get there at last. By the time we reached there, the place was already packed with people.
The dishes that we ordered that day...
Deep-fried pork knuckle... it was perfectly fried. The skin was crispy while the meat was tender and juicy. The special sauce looked like curry but it tasted like tomato sauce. The sauce was a bit too sweet for my liking. The fried knuckle actually tasted good even without the sauce. The portion was huge and priced RM 33.00.
Siong Tong Lala... (clams in soup). The soup has a bit of "tong kuai" herbal flavor and the freshness of clams together with the wolf berries bring out the sweetness of the soup. Overall it was just nice. - RM14.00.
The deep-fried mantis prawn with salted egg... crispy and tasty! It was not bad but not incredibly good either.-RM 18.00
Sizzling calamari and prawn in their special sauce... the sauce looked like kurma curry but it didn't taste liked it. It was again too sweet for my liking. - RM 26.00.
Their house specialty home made crispy tofu... well, actualy was not so special. - RM6.00.
The total bill came to RM112.00 inclusive of drinks for 6 adults.

With this voucher, 2 of us paid nothing for the High-Tea whereas without this voucher, ones need to pay RM68.00++.
I'm not sure if my last visit was for their High-Tea or Lunch Buffet, but this time around, I personally felt that the spread was rather limited. Since it was free, I can't complain much can I?
