Hokkien Mee@Damansara

If we would make this far to this part of the town in the evening, the chicken chop at Stenven's Western Corner usually would be the purpose of our visit. But today I couldn't quite reach a consensus with my other half to savour my favorite chicken chop there... and finally we agreed to explore something new.
This restaurant was one of the 2 Hokkien Mee restaurants located at the same row, but few shoplots apart, that we noticed, which successfully drew quite an impressive crowds every time we passed by after our meal at Steven's Western Corner. We decided to check them out today. We chose this one was mainly because we managed to get a parking space right in front of this restaurant.
The signboard basically shows what they have to offer and their business hour...

And we ordered these...
Hokkien Mee... the KL's version and not the typical Penang Hokkien Mee. The ingredients was rather limited... a few thinly sliced pork meat and 2 or 3 pcs of dried shrimps ( about the size of a dried shrimp) given. The taste was just the usual taste of a Hokkien Mee which you can get everywhere. Single portion was RM 6.00.
Yee Fu Mee... same mediocre and limited ingredients given. The taste... well, the other half managed to have just 2 mouthfuls of it and I had to forcibly swallow all (as I don't like to waste my food) which ended up without remembering how it tasted like. The single portion was RM 6.00 as well.
It was just 6:30pm and already full of people which puzzled me until today that what actually attracted the crowds to the restaurant.
They are located same row as HSBC at Uptown Damansara but further down towards the end of the road.

Garden Lifestyle Store & Cafe

This restaurant has been around quite a while in One Utama Shopping Mall but it was relatively new to me. Every time I walked up the escalator from the basement car park, I saw a guy stood outside the restaurant and beside the escalator, handing out leaflet promoting the restaurant... but I was just reluctant to check them out until recently... The garden theme restaurant... relaxing atmosphere.
Mini artificial flower pot as table decor.
Their menu offers Asian & Western cuisines...
But today we just preferred to check out their set lunch - Entree + Drink + Soup of the day from RM 12.90 - RM 19.90.
Ice Lemon Tea came with the set.
Ice Coffee came with the set.
Soup of the day... served in a coffee cup. I think it was an asparagus soup... a little bit too bland for my tastebuds.
Nasi Lemak... I expected a whole chicken leg but a small "rendang" chicken drumstick was given instead. The rice was not "lemak" enough and too moist. RM 12.90+ which I would prefer the Village Park's one.
Spaghetti Carbonara... a few tiny piece of beef bacon and some tiny piece of oyster mushroom as the main ingredients. The gravy was too dry and not creamy enough. RM 17.90+ was a huge disappointment to say the least.

Random shots of the restaurant...

Quite a picturesque place for your wedding photo maybe?? Well, the above review is just restricted to the 2 lunch sets that I tried and I can't comment the other foods that they offer on their standard menu. In fact they offer quite a comprehensive menu but you just have to check them out yourself!

Choong Kee Kampar Claypot Rice

When it came to dinner time last weekend, I proposed to go Uptown Damansara for my favorite Chicken Chop but it was rejected with no particular reason. Then I proposed we go to Sunway for Tasty Pot and again rejected because she was not that hungry. When asked what she wanted for dinner - "Don't know la" was the answer.
With that "don't know" in mind, we searched high and low in Subang Jaya, we went rounding in Uptown Damansara (but definitely not for chicken chop) and finally in Damansara Jaya. We noticed that this restaurant had the most crowds and we therefore agreed to check them out. Mind you it was almost an hour of search!
By the time we landed ourselves in this restaurant, it was already 8:40 p.m and starving. We quickly went through their menu and made our order. They just offer Claypot Chicken Rice with some add-ons (salted fish, Lap Cheong, extra chicken) and 1 or 2 side dishes together with a handful of steamed soups.
Big one already sold out so we ordered 2 small ones with salted fish and lap cheong. RM8.00 each.
They were quite generous with their ingredients. The rice was perfectly cooked by using charcoal where it was not too wet nor too dry albeit a bit of burned rice. The chicken was tender and together with the "Mui Heong Ham Yu" made it an excellent dish.
Altogether they had about 8 types of soups but unfortunately we were late - only herbal chicken and peppercorn with pork stomach were available. So I chose the latter to share - not too bad but not great either. RM5.00
I think we were the last customers of the night as we saw they actually turned away at least 20 groups of customers after us. It was just 8:50 p.m. then. So if you wanna check them out, please go early and find the address below;

Prego@The Westin KL

In my previous post which I mentioned the usual place that I would normally go to get my fix whenever there was a crave for Italian food. Well, here is the place - Prego.
Entrance to Prego.
Prego has an open kitchen concept...
Where you can see the chefs in action. The firewood oven for pizza.
They offer quite a comprehensive Italian dishes on their menu.
The complimentary loft... still warm. The crust was crisp, yet the insides wonderfully soft. It was a big loft and I always told myself to go easy with it as there were more foods to come but it was simply delicious... that ended up "sapu-ing" the whole loft.
Served with their homemade tomato dip.
But I prefer my loft to go with butter.

After chewing our bread for 15 mins or so, here came our food...

Prego Carbonara... Beef bacon, Egg yolk, Cream, Parmesan. - RM 31.00++
We requested Fettuccine as the choice of pasta. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce was rich and creamy enough. But this time I felt it was a bit too thick for me. Nevertheless it was a great dish.
Wow Supreme... Pepperoni, Turkey ham, Gorgonzola, Artichoke, Kalamata Olives, Button mushroom, Mozzarella, Tomato sauce. - RM 36.00++
The firewood pizza was baked according to our request- extra cheese! They're never stingy with their other ingredients too. The thin crust had a bit of burning mark but that made it more crispy and tasty. This is the real pizza supposed to be isn't it?
Obviously their standard size pizza was too big (equal to the large size pizza in Pizza Hut) for the 2 of us. We had to pack and bring it back for our my dinner.

Prego's interior...
The atmosphere was relax albeit the buzzing street of Bukit Bintang in front.
The lower level of Prego where we were usually being seated at, so as the non-smoking diners. A good place that overlooking the open kitchen where all the kitchen activities are.
If you have to wait for table, you can actually walk up to the bar to have a drink or 2 whilst waiting.
A huge pillar decorated with photos of guests that celebrated their special occasion there. The wine selections. Behind is the staircase leading to the upper dining level.
The Westin Kuala Lumpur where Prego is located at.
Hotel Lobby...
Their heavenly bed being displayed in the lobby. Trust me, their bed is indeed heavenly.
Pavilion- the posh shopping mall is just right opposite the hotel. The Westin is giving 2 hour free parking for dining at their restaurant. After settling the bill, we decided to cross the street as we still had an hour or so to go...

Btw, the total bill came to RM 38.55 inclusive of tax and after the 50% discounts for Starwood member.
Who could resist the temptation... especially the sale carnival of the year is on??
Lexus was having exhibition at the concourse area and they had golf putting game. The visitors will have 3 chances to hit the ball in to be rewarded with gift.

My gift after the 3rd try... good eh?
