Seri Penang's RM1.00 Promotion

Last month I blogged about their RM1.00 Char Kuey Teow promotion, I doubted worried if the boss was financially sound enough to carry on their promotion for the following months...

Having said that, Curry Mee (Curry Noodle) would be their new dish on promotion for the month of May and being the first weekday of May today, my friend invited me to join him to try out their Curry Mee. Of course he needed no extra effort to coax, I happily agreed to join him.

After being seated, you may see a bright red card displayed on the table... no, not their new menu but their new term and condition laminated card.

FYI, the boss "bey ta han liao"(cannot stand already). They now have to come out with a new term and condition. In order to enjoy their RM1.00 Curry Mee, you have to spend at least RM5.00+ on their other foods or drinks.

In order to savour their Curry Mee, we ordered...
Red Bean Cendol (RM4.90+). The cendol had a flavorful taste of 'gula melaka' but the taste did not come close to the one that you get in Penang. *sarcastic mode on* The shaved ice was a bit rough that it may hurt your tongue during the process of swallowing. *sarcastic mode off*
My friend ordered a "Durian flavoured Cendol with a scoop of vanilla ice cream" (RM5.90+). It has a very flavorful durian taste. According to my friend, he was very happy with his Cendol... as he said, they were using either D24 or 猫山皇 durian on this Cendol. I'm not sure if he was serious. But whatever he says, you may need to give allowance of at least 50% if it is true.
It looks like Curry Mee, It tastes like Curry Mee and it's definitely Curry Mee. Full stop.

Tiong Nam’s Char Kuey Teow

If you don’t want to be ‘tortured’ by the stuck-up lady of the Lorong Selamat Char Kuey Teow, you need to find alternatives. I’ve boycotted the lady and stopped going to Lorong Selamat, therefore an alternative should be found to replace it. You can’t miss the Char Kuey Teow when you are in Penang, can you?

I have found a place for a decent Char Kuey Teow at Tiong Nam. Normally we just say going ‘Tion Nam’ for our breakfast, lunch, dinner or supper there but would not bother to mention the name of coffee shop. In fact I didn’t know the name of the coffee shop until I took this photo for blogging. It is ‘Keat Seng’ mate! It’s just located at the junction of Reservoir Garden where the morning market is. If you are heading to Penang Hill from town, it is just right after the Shell petrol station. Location map

It has a nice aroma when a piece of banana leaf is used for lining the plate when the Kuey Teow is piping hot. 2 pieces of prawn (the size slightly bigger than RM0.50), some cockles, few pieces of ‘lap cheong’ (Chinese sausage) & egg cost RM3.00 a plate which is cheap to KL’s standard. The portion is just right where it leaves some space in your stomach for a bowl of curry mee.
The curry mee is nothing to shout about. But it’s just RM2.50!
