Yu Thao Mai - 鱼头米

Woo Pin Yu Thao Mai-鱼头米 which is based in Cheras is quite popular among the avid foodies of fish head noodle in Klang Valley. They also have another branch in Taman Desa. But I still go back to their main branch for the original 鱼头米.This bowl of 'bee hoon' (rice vermicelli) is huge with 3 large pieces of deep-fried 'Soong' fish ( A type of fresh water fish). They do have the poached version of fish if you don't particularly like the deep-fried version. Evaporated milk is used to cook the broth so it's a bit milky but don't worry if you prefer the plain one. They do serve without milk one. Anyway, the evaporated milk will make the broth to have more... oomph flavor! Never the less plenty of 'kiam chai' (salted veges.) and the Hua Tiao Chiew( Chinese wine ) really give it a kick!.
To squeeze a piece of lime into the 'sambal' to go with the fish is heavenly!
I asked to be given only the 'meaty' fish as I don't really know how to appreciate the head's parts. So they gave me 3 large pieces of fish. This bowl of 鱼头米 priced RM 7.50. Actually the basic one is just RM 6.50 but I ordered a 'keh liao' (additional) one. 3 pieces of fish pastes for RM1.00. The fish paste is made of mackerel fish. The texture is a bit harder than the normal fish ball. Worth it!
The evaporated milk and 'hua tiao chiew' are the main ingredients.
By the time I finished that bowl of 'yu thao mai', my underwear was already soaked in sweat. I guess it must be the ginger, or maybe the 'sambal' and the scorching sun did the trick. Remember to wear light!
The Woo Pin Fish Head Noodle is located under this 4 storey flat, in Jalan Ikan Emas, Cheras. They close on Thursday. Lunch time is crowded. Location map.

Dim Sum@Celestial Court

When you mention 'Dim Sum', usually it will be associated to; waking up early in the morning so that you can get a table (usually it's full of people on weekends), the noise in the restaurant and the waitress running around from table to table with their trolley or tray to show you their dim sum.
Celestial Court, contrarily, the atmosphere is cosy and relax. You'd have to actually order from the menu. The Dim Sum is fresh and hot from the bamboo steamer when served. They serve the best Dim Sum that I've ever tasted so far. I dare to say that it's better than the Hong Kong Dim Sum that I've tasted there. "Sure or not? So good meh??"- you may ask. Well, here I would just let the pictures do the talking!
Noticed the mood-lighting changed color on the ceiling?

Steven's Western Corner@Damansara Uptown

When there is a crave, there is a place! This is the place where I normally go for my hearty meal - Chicken Chop! I have been frequenting this stall for years now. They serve very decent western fare and their Chicken Chop is highly recommended. Most importantly it is affordable!
They use only dark meat to deep fry with bread crumbs for their chicken chop. It is so perfectly fried that the meat is tender and juicy while the crust is still crispy when served. The brown sauce is so creamy and tasty to go with the chicken. It is also served with coleslaw, fried egg and some fries. The portion, I would say is huge! The price, I would say is cheap! It's only RM8.00.
This is their sirloin steak with brown sauce - RM13.00. I find the steak was overcooked as it was a bit chewy. If you find the food in these pictures not appetising enough, you could actually try their other dishes; Lamb Chop, Grill Chicken, Black Pepper Lamb, Black Pepper Steak and many more.
The coleslaw is actually better than the KFC's one.
It is located at the right end corner of the Uptown Hawker Center in Damansara. Business hour is from 6:30pm - midnight. Location map

Wong Soon Kee's Wantan Mee

Wong Soon Kee in SS14, Subang Jaya is the place that my parents would definitely go to savour their Wantan Mee when they are in KL. They especially love the 'Char Siew' as they complain that the Wantan Mee in Penang is using artificial coloring on their 'Char Siew' and it is as dry as wood fibre. The worst part is - they are stingy with their 'Char Siew'!
They commended the Wantan Mee fellows in Penang that they must have been sent for training on how to slice the 'Char Siew' so thin (which it's slightly thicker than the 80gm paper), before they can venture into the business.

The pickled green chilies for your Wantan Mee which you wouldn't wanna eat without, would you?
The coffee shop is located in SS14/1, Subang Jaya which is facing the main road. The stall is open from 8 a.m - 2 p.m. Location map.

Soon Lai Seafood Restaurant in Greenlane

Read carefully, it's in Greenlane Penang not Greenland. Actually I was undecided if I should post this as the previous 2 times I visited this Soon Lai Seafood Restaurant and really happy with their foods. Every dish that we ordered was really good and the portion was huge. But unfortunately on this recent visit, 3 out of 4 dishes that we ordered were just...... so so! Nothing to shout about. The only one left is the dish that you should not miss when you pay a visit to the restaurant.
Yes, It is the 'Nestum Prawn' that you should not miss. It's the best that I have ever tasted (so far la). It was only RM12.00 for 6 pcs XL size's prawn.
The braised pork trotter is tender enough but the taste is so so only. The portion was huge and it was priced RM16.00.
The sizzling tofu was also OK only. It was just RM10.00
The broccoli was below par! You should avoid this dish eventhough it was only RM8.00.
The total bill came to RM60.00 for 3 adults and I kid. Well, actually the bill should be only RM52.00, but they charged us extra RM8.00 for a dish which we didn't order. We did not check the bill properly and end up paying a generous 'tips' to them.
If you wanna try your luck with their foods (actually worth a try), please find their address below:

KFC & Yao Yao Ping

KFC here stands for Klang Fried Chicken. The chicken is tastier and crunchier compared to Kentucky Fried Chicken.

The other type of chicken they serve - " Ayam Percik', which is a Malay's delicacy. Normally only Malay know best in this recipe but surprisingly the owner of this stall, who is Chinese serves better 'Ayam Percik' than many of our Malay friends. The chicken is well marinated and barbecued to perfection.
You must dip the chicken with their special chili sauce to make it irresistible! I think they must have put some 'santan' ( coconut milk) in the sauce which is so tasty!
The chicken is being kept in the oven to preserve the temperature after barbecued or fried, so that it is crunchy and hot when served.
The only drinks they serve is their signature 'Yao Yao Ping' (ice blended drinks). I ordered the red bean flavor to quench my thirst.
There are few different flavour of 'Yao Yao Ping', lychee, sour plum, pineapple, honeydew, red bean, coffee & etc...
There is another stall in this shop which is selling Wan Tan Mee... but most of the people come here for the chicken.
It is well indicated the time you should go after their chicken and the price of the chicken.
The shop is located in Jalan Young, Pandamaran Klang. Don't bother to look for this road sign. It would be a hassle to read the road name. If you're using Federal Highway, just go all the way straight heading to North Port. You will see a huge Chinese School, Hin Hua on your left and 1 km after the school you will reach a traffic light junction where you can see the sign 'Pandamaran'. Just follow the sign to turn left. Go straight until the 2nd traffic light junction which you can see a Perodua show room then turn right and the shop would be just opposite the SRJK(C) Pandamaran. Location map.

Are you an IKEA's friend?

If you are an Ikea's friend, a cup of specially brewed coffee or cappuccino worth RM3.00 is free for you EVERYDAY. It is refillable as well!

The curry puff is RM1.00 a piece which you must buy your own. I think the curry puff is better than OCK's one.
A cup of cappuccino and a piece of curry puff is perfect combination for your afternoon tea!

It is a nice 'pitstop' place for your afternoon tea!I have been a loyal friend to them since 7 years ago. If you are not yet an Ikea's friend, try to make friends with them fast so that you can enjoy the free coffee there! Location map
